Thank you to all who were able to attend our parent meeting on February 5th! Mike and I are always encouraged by this group of parents who want to help us invest in the lives of these students. I wanted to send this email to recap some of the points that were touched on during the meeting:
Yearly Release Forms: We have tried to make the event registration process simpler by utilizing one main medical release form that will last all of 2017. We will keep that form on file so that each event will only require a parent signature for a student to attend.
Communication: Our church website is pretty awesome and we want to utilize it as much as we can. If you go to okcfirst.com/connect/youth, you will find our main youth page. This page contains general information about what we’re about as well as times/days our recurring events happen. That page also contains links to forms for Camp, Cactus, and Toronto. From our main page, you can get to our announcement page which has upcoming events and reminders. If you have any questions regarding the website, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
LT Groups: There is a new format for our small groups that is already in place. We have extended Wednesday night programming to 8pm in order to make space for our students to have meaningful discussion in their LT groups.
Bake Sale: Our next bake sale will happen on February 26th in the Atrium.
Sunday Luncheon: In an effort to fundraise for summer missions, us Ministries will be hosting a Sunday Luncheon on April 9th. Thanks to Mandy, Stephanie, Christa, and Jamie for volunteering to be our lunch dream team for this event! Be on the lookout for more information regarding this event.
Spring Banquet, Variety Show, & Auction: This is always our biggest fundraising event of the year. We are looking for quality, not quantity auction items. In fact, we have an online sign up sheet of the items that we are looking for. Also, a portion of each ticket that a student sells will go directly into his/her account. This event will happen on April 21st.
Yard Sale: This annual fundraising event will happen on May 27th. You are in charge of marking your name AND price on each individual item before you bring it that morning!
Middle School Mission (Cactus): We have developed a relationship with the Cactus Nazarene Mission Center. They are in the heart of a small town that is inhabited by primarily refugees. Students will experience many different cultures from Sudanese, to Guatemalan, to Somalian. This is one of the best ways for middle school students to get international experience without actually having to leave the country.
High School Mission (Toronto): Through the Salvation Army and Toronto City Mission, your students have the opportunity to participate in highly relational ministry. During the day, they will work with elementary age, inner city kids at TCM day camps. In the evenings, they will have opportunities to work with people in the Regent Park area through Salvation Army. If your student doesn’t have a PASSPORT, please start that process now.
